When Olivero Design started in 1988 it was funded with a meager tax return.  That didn't last long and neither did Mark's initial product idea.  Mark Olivero started in business to do calligraphy lettering for a variety of applications.  Many people admired the "beautiful lettering" but there was not enough demand for custom hand lettering.  It was too costly in time and effort to do what could easily be done by a computer, a plotter and a printer.  So he joined the 20th century and bought a computerized sign system.
